Life This Weekend...

ROAMED:
The streets of Hobart. Wondering around the streets of Hobart is luscious, so many beautiful, cute little houses and views out over the river. The cutest little house I saw was one painted green and purple to match the lavender plants along the fence.

ATE AND DRUNK:
This week we deviated from our Friday ritual of eating at North Hobart, we made our way down to Salamanca to the James Squire pub. Andy was keen to check out the Beer, which he thoroughly enjoyed, and I enjoyed my excellent glass of Ninth Island Pinot Noir. We had an Antipasto Plate to share, with delicious meats, marinated veges, pesto and bread. After a few more drinks, I am ashamed to say we finished our evening with Hungry Jacks! And it was good!

READ:
As the next day was raining, and I was slightly under the weather, I spent the afternoon reading Marian Keyes, "Anybody Out There". Chic lit at its mediocre, but I still was absorbed in the story and read till the end. A good book if your looking for something light.

SHOPPED:
I never get bored of roaming around the Salamanca Market, and this Saturday was no different, apart from the rain. Lucky I had an umbrella, but still it was a quick roam around as it was just to wet. I did manage to buy a cute little knitted headband that keeps my ears warm when I have my hair up (hats are no good when I have my hair up!).

Delicious Jelly Cakes

My first ever attempt at making what the Australians call Jelly cakes, but for us kiwis, they are raspberry lamingtons. The only difference being that you fill them with cream before you roll them in the jelly and coconut. They are delicious. The only thing I would do differently next time is make them slightly smaller and not cook them for as long.
Perfect afternoon treat with a lovely book and steaming cup of tea. x x

Beautiful Day for a Walk

Yesterday was a beautiful autumn morning, blue skies with a definite chill in the air. The perfect day for heading out for a walk and warming up!
We headed up to Mt Wellington and parked at Three Springs. The North-South track we did was just lovely. The walkway was so well made, the little rock walls everywhere were gorgeous, and the bush we were walking through was amazing. The views looking out over Hobart and the peninsulas were worth the walk up and were pretty as a picture!

A Chilly Salamanca Market

Yesterday morning was sooooo cold, even wrapped up in a down vest and wooly hat I was still freezing while walking around the stalls! I do love being at Salamanca Market though, I love the hustle and bustle, the smells and sounds and the excitement of finding something lovely. And there are so many lovely people selling so many lovely things that every week there is a buzz about the place.
So far I have only brought a few select things, one being a very lovely ring made from the end of a vintage spoon, which I adore and wear every day. Also some exremely delicious soap...yes delicious, as it is nearly yummy enough to eat! The soap company is Natural Infusion and their soaps are all natural and have such wonderful names as 'Mother Earth', 'Sweet Thing' and 'Mr Spice'. They also sell 'Stubble Buster' which is a shaving cake which Andy just loves...works wonders with a proper shaving brush and doesn't dry out the skin. Definitely delicious soap!

After the market I spent a lovely afternoon in the sun in the back garden and it was lovely. It was spent with a good book, a new magazine, my journal and a yummy bottle of 'Emma and Toms' wellbeing water. Just Lovely.

Moorilla Pinot Noir

I was very excited to learn today that Hill Street Grocers have Moorilla wine on sale this week. Moorilla is a winery about 10 minutes drive from where we live, and is very fancy. We were lucky enough to be taken out for dinner there the last time we were here in Hobart, and it was yummy. It is however quite pretentious and I needed to use an online dictionary while reading through the website! They do make a damn fine Pinot Noir though all the same.

I have just had my first glass and it is lovely, excellent value for $10.99 a bottle.
Check out the website www.moorilla.com.au, or better yet head down there yourself, it is very lovely even if a wee bit pretentious!

Letters To Juliet @ The State Cinema

On Saturday, in a mad rush, I made my way down to North Hobart, at the last minute I had decided to head to the movies. I had heard a lot about the boutique theatre and was in the mood for a love story. The State was great! I love that each cinema is small and cosy and that you can take in your glass of wine or beer and some yummy treats!

The movie itself was fairly predictable in plot, but the scenery of Italy was worth it. Our favourite city in Italy was Verona, and we have great memories of being in Tuscany and Siena, so it was lovely to be transported back. All in all it was a lovely Saturday afternoon spent at the State. Checkout www.statecinema.com.au for the latest showings or pick up a brochure from outside the cinema itself. I think that my next movie at the state will be 'New York, I love you' ...

Cutest Little House on the Street

I adore this little cottage! Hobart is full of beautiful little old houses that are all so gorgeous, but this is my favourite I have found so far. I love the green shutters and lavender hedge and how close it is to the road. It is down a little street on the way to North Hobart, so each time we walk down to the shops or a restaurant we go by it, and each time we pass by I sigh with adoration.

I know how impractical it would probably be to live here, it is so little! But oh so delicious.
